Research published in 2026 across more than 625,000 organizations confirmed what we have been observing: attackers are now using AI to compress attack development timelines from weeks to days. One documented case showed a threat actor using approximately 12 AI agents to write and test attacks inside a customer’s network, producing nearly 80 attack modules and over 70 evasion techniques in days. What previously required a skilled team working for weeks was completed in a matter of days by AI.
That is not a future threat. It is happening now, at scale, across criminal ecosystems worldwide.

Where the Real Risk Lives
The biggest shift we are seeing is around identity. Compromised credentials are now the leading way attackers gain initial access, surpassing vulnerability exploitation. Even organizations keeping up with patching remain exposed if their identity infrastructure is not properly secured.
We are also seeing attacks targeting AI tools businesses have deployed internally. Coding assistants and automated agents with privileged system access are becoming entry points, and many organizations have not yet caught up with securing them.
AI is not replacing attackers. It is making them faster and lowering the barrier for less skilled threat actors to launch sophisticated attacks. The response window is shorter than it has ever been.
What Businesses Need to Do
From our perspective, the businesses managing this well share a few things in common. They have strong multifactor authentication in place and they validate that it is actually working. They monitor their environment continuously, not just during business hours. They patch quickly, especially on internet-facing and edge devices. And they treat cybersecurity as an ongoing operational function rather than a periodic project.
